Project Description
This flowing space creates a warm and flexible home for a family with three children. Our design for the 4,000 square foot loft in Manhattan’s Flatiron District provides both intimate family moments such as around the fireplace and, at the same time, provides a backdrop to frequently entertain a large number of guests.
The living area takes full advantage of a quintessential Manhattan roofline view. This space is an open and fluid zone that frames the vista and embraces the light streaming in from the skylights and the southern exposure. The kitchen centers around a large island that is the nexus for cooking, gathering and entertaining.
The details are taut and tailored in contrast to the fluid floor plan. The materials are spare, neutral, and modern to match the client’s attitude and aesthetics, but they are also robust enough to withstand three active children. Consisting of white marble and dark woods, the palette was kept minimal, to create a clean backdrop for urban family life.
