Leshan Sales Center

The design readapts the warehouse of an old sugar factory into a sales center of a housing project. Therefore we consider the approach of wrapping that will not damage the original structure while integrating the inside and outside of the spaces.

With the central idea of “Planting a tree that will grow into a forest on the mountain,” we adopt the contour of the mountain cohabited with the plants. The old structure is thus transfigured into an organic space of lush vitality.

Exterior: The layer is a green wall with small pots of evergreens densely connected on a timber structural wall, interspersed with a geometric wooden trellis. The summit of the ridgeline is covered with slabs of grass mats.

Interior: The ceiling becomes naked with original structure painted in black in preparation for future need of equipment suspension. The utilities and toilet are tucked on the peripherals. The circular space is framed by five wooden trees whose trunks interpenetrate one another, creating an experience of a dynamic forest canopy. The S-shaped table and benches in the understory seating area serve as amenity area. The immersive experience of being in a forest is vivid and fun.
